We should not forget that nature and the modernization are determined by its ultimate goal, which, despite the importance of economic growth, technical excellence and competitiveness is to improve the lives of everyone today and to provide enabling environment for future generations. One of the priority themes of the Institute was «ecological hot spots». To state the problem and develop a program of action hearings were held June 23, 2010. The hearing was attended by experts and representatives of all federal districts, including representatives of the Centre for Environmental Policy and Culture and regional public chambers.
Results of the Institute for the preparation of expert materials «Modernization of Economy and Sustainable Development» (on request from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) were presented at a hearing November 24, 2010 on the discussion of proposals for the Fundamentals of State Environmental Policy of the Russian Federation up to 2030 and expert materials were sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
September 23, 2010 in the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation held a regular meeting of the Social Forum on Energy Efficiency and Climate Change.
A new priority for the Institute was determined at a hearing June 23, 2010.
Experts and activists have noted that Russia, together with the other BRIC countries (including Brazil, India and China) could act as a leader of the movement «Rio+20» for the World UN Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012, 20 years after meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
On June 18, 2010 the international conference Modernization of the Economy and Sustainable Development took place in the Institute of Contemporary Development.
