Legislation as a Tool for Implementation of National Environmental Policy (Important Focus Areas)

The strategic goal of state environmental policy is defined in the Environmental Doctrine of the Russian Federation as the conservation of natural systems, the maintenance of their integrity and life-support functions for sustainable development of society, the elevation of the quality of life, the improvement of public health and the demographic situation, and the promotion of the countrys environmental security.

Environmental Priorities and Health: Socially Vulnerable Territories and Population Groups

Communities are experiencing environment-related health effects amid a severe socioeconomic and demographic situation characterized by a high sickness rate. The life span in Russia was growing in 19951999 and reducing in 19992003. Since 2004, the situation has somewhat changed for the better. In spite of this positive trend, the consequences of life span reduction that was observed from the 1980s on have not been overcome yet.
